Life

Born in Skopje (Üsküp) in 1881/82 (AH 1299), Hasan Nuri Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Hasan Nuri also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).

At about 16, in 1897/98, Hasan Nuri began work in Skopje, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1902/03, with Hasan Nuri as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Kosova. The last posts were in Prizren in 1903/04 and Kočani (Koçana) in 1904/05.

The salary went from 200 kuruş a month in 1902/03 to 250 in 1903/04, the peak, as Muhabere Memuru in Prizren, when 14 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, three years of salary come to 8,160 kuruş, 47 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1904/05.
