Life#
Seyyit Ahmet Naci Efendi was born in Varna in 1849/50 (AH 1266) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
Work began in the Muhasebe Kalemi in Varna in 1865/66, at about 16, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. From 1867/68 to 1871/72 every annual entry places Seyyit Ahmet Naci in Varna, the birthplace, first in the accounts office (Muhasebe Kalemi), from 1868/69 as a postal official (Posta Memuru).
The salary went from 400 kuruş a month in 1867/68 to 500 in 1868/69, the peak, as Posta Memuru in Varna, when 40 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1871/72.
