Life#
This official was born in Beirut (Beyrut) in 1869/70 (AH 1286), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 17, in 1886/87, the official began work in Beirut, paid from the start, on 150 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1886/87, with the official as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Tiberias (Taberiye). The official then moved to Acre (Akka) from 1887 to 1893, with a rise to postal official (Posta Memuru) in 1891/92. For 1889 to 1891 the lists have no entry. The last posts were in Tripoli (Trablusşam) from 1893 to 1896.
The salary went from 150 kuruş a month in 1886/87 to 300 in 1891/92, the peak, as Posta Memuru in Acre, when 16 per cent of paid officials earned less.
