Life#
Ali Efendi was born in Pristina (Priştine) in 1860/61 (AH 1277) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Ali began work in Priboj (Priboy) in 1900/01, at about 40, paid from the start, on 170 kuruş a month. Of the 5,128 officials whose age at first work is known, 40 started at 40 or older. The annual lists begin in 1900/01, with Ali as a deliverer (Müvezzi) in Priboj.
