Life#
Omer Yumni Bey was born in Ürgüp in 1860/61 (AH 1277), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, and the father's occupation was "urgup hanedani". Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Omer Yumni also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 19, in 1879/80, Omer Yumni began work in Ürgüp, on a first salary of 200 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1879/80, places Omer Yumni in Ürgüp, the birthplace, as a tithe official (Aşar Memuru), where the entries run to 1887/88, with a rise to a post in the Bidayet Mahkemesi Kitabeti in 1880/81. The last posts were in Burdur from 1890 to 1892 and Kayseri from 1892 to 1894.
Pay rose from 200 kuruş a month in 1879/80 to a peak of 1,400 in 1890/91, as 2. Bidayet Mahkemesi Riyaseti in Burdur, when 93 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1893/94. An entry in "Sicill-i Ahvâl kayıtlarına göre Orta Anadolu (Nevşehir, Kırşehir, Niğde ve ..." by ZEYNEP ÜNSAL (2021) probably refers to Omer Yumni, since the name and the archive register and page agree.
