Life#
Born in Cerkezistan in 1875/76 (AH 1292), Hüseyin Hurşit Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Hüseyin Hurşit began work in Istanbul in 1895/96, at about 20, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1896/97, places Hüseyin Hurşit in Thessaloniki (Selanik) as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). The last posts were in Izmir (İzmir) from 1899 to 1903 and Karamürsel in 1903/04.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1896/97, as Muhabere Memuru in Thessaloniki, when 18 per cent of paid officials earned less.
