Life#
Born in Şebinkarahisar (Karahisar-ı Şarki) in 1874/75 (AH 1291) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Ahmet Tevfik Efendi was the child of an imam. At about 22, in 1896/97, Ahmet Tevfik began work in Izmir (İzmir), paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1896/97, with Ahmet Tevfik as an official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti) in Izmir, where the entries run to 1904/05. The last post was in Muğla in 1905/06, with a rise to director of the second grade (2. Müdür).
The salary went from 400 kuruş a month in 1896/97 to 700 in 1905/06, the peak, as 2. Müdür in Muğla, when 73 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1905/06. Ahmet Tevfik probably has an entry in "Osmanlı bürokrasisinde Giresunlu devlet adamları (1879-1909)" by AHMET YADİ (2014) (the name and the archive register and page agree, though the birthplace differs).
