Life#
Born in Sofia (Sofya) in 1865/66 (AH 1282), İbrahim Hakkı Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a sergeant (çavuş). İbrahim Hakkı had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Niš (Niş) in 1881/82, at about 16, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1883/84, places İbrahim Hakkı in Çorlu as a transport official (Nakliye Memuru), where the entries run to 1888/89. In 1889/90 the lists place İbrahim Hakkı in Adapazarı.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 200 kuruş a month in 1883/84, as Nakliye Memuru in Çorlu, when 4 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over seven years the salaries add up to 16,800 kuruş, 40 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1889/90.
