Life#
Born in Ankara in 1873/74 (AH 1290) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Mehmet Esat Efendi was the child of an army major (binbaşı). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Unpaid work as a mülazım (apprentice) lasted half a year. From the first annual entry, for 1891/92, to 1904/05, every annual entry places Mehmet Esat in the same post, customs official (Rüsumat Memuru), in Ankara, the birthplace.
