Life#
Born in Ankara in 1862/63 (AH 1279), Mehmet Kasım Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a merchant (tüccar). Mehmet Kasım had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Ankara in 1891/92, at about 29, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 190 kuruş.
