Life#
Born in Kirkuk (Kerkük) in 1878 (AH 1295), Ahmet İzzet Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Ahmet İzzet had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 17, in 1895/96, Ahmet İzzet began work in Kirkuk, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1899/1900, places Ahmet İzzet in Sulaymaniyah (Süleymaniye) as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). Ahmet İzzet then moved to Baghdad (Bağdat) from 1900 to 1905. The last post was in Kirkuk, the birthplace, in 1905/06.
Pay rose from 250 kuruş a month in 1899/1900 to a peak of 380 in 1904/05, as Muhabere Memuru in Baghdad, when 35 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over seven years the salaries add up to 25,320 kuruş, 62 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1905/06.
