Life#
Yasef Kasuti Efendi was born in Çanakkale in 1867/68 (AH 1284) into the Jewish (Musevi) community. Schooling took four years, at the Musevi Mektebi; Yasef Kasuti also wrote French as well as Turkish.
Yasef Kasuti began work in Çanakkale in 1882/83, at about 16, with six unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 380 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1888/89, with Yasef Kasuti as an official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti) in Izmir (İzmir), where the entries run to 1902/03. The last post was in Preveza (Preveze) in 1903/04, with a rise to Sef.
