Life#
Born in Amasya in 1867/68 (AH 1284), Mustafa Nuri Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 19, in 1886/87, Mustafa Nuri began work in Ergani, with nine unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. Fewer than 2 per cent of the 5,142 officials with a known apprenticeship worked unpaid for nine years or longer. From the first annual entry, for 1895/96, to 1905/06, every annual entry places Mustafa Nuri in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Adana.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 400 kuruş a month in 1895/96, as Muhabere Memuru in Adana, when 30 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over 11 years pay ended where it began, at 400 kuruş. The last annual entry is for 1905/06. Mustafa Nuri probably has an entry in "Sicill-i Ahval kayıtlarına göre Amasyalı memurlar" by SELÇUK SARI (2013) (the name and the birthplace agree).
