Life#
İbrahim Efendi was born in Diyarbakır in 1873/74 (AH 1290), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); İbrahim also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Diyarbakır in 1896/97, at about 23, with six unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1902/03, with İbrahim as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Damascus (Şam). The last posts were in Beirut (Beyrut) from 1903 to 1906 and Diyarbakır, the birthplace, in 1906/07.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1902/03, as Muhabere Memuru in Damascus, when 21 per cent of paid officials earned less.
